The essential hazard is the physical hazard that the advantage will be harmed, lost or taken (Ghosh Tang, 2015). Then again, the optional dangers are the monetary hazard that there will be mistake in deciding the valuable life, cost or devaluation. Both the controls are clarified beneath Physical control The principle goal of the physical control is checking the condition, authority and presence of the advantage. The principle reason for the physical control is to check the presence of advantage and it incorporates Recognizable proof of the fixed resource record for the specific resource, its date of procurement, sequential number, model number, anticipated helpful life, deterioration rate, obtaining cost. Regardless of whether the advantage is checked in any event every year and if there is a hazard related with the site improvement for the hardware or any physical harms. Regardless of whether the administration audit the advantage occasionally as to the protection arrangements of the benefits which are presented to the misfortune or harms. Anorexia Nervosa cannot be satisfactorily accounted for by any single model of abnormality Free Essays

Anorexia is a condition questioned by clinicians in endeavors to discover a reason for the issue. Anorexia is the point at which an individual decides to starve themselves so as to be flimsy. There are two fundamental sorts of thinking behind such conduct. We will compose a custom paper test on Anorexia Nervosa can't be acceptably represented by any single model of variation from the norm or on the other hand any comparable point just for you Request Now The organic and mental clarification. Obviously, there are numerous types of spread out clarifications inside these, and the two of which that I will investigate are the hereditary support (as far as organic) and the behaviorist methodology, for the mental connection. Natural analysts accept that human conduct and what causes us to do what we do, is all down to qualities. With the new development in late science, qualities are turning into a progressively mainstream thinking to numerous mental issues. Anorexia nervosa for one. The hereditary methodology announces that the reason for anorexia is to do with qualities: for example the hereditary and acquired components we have inside our relations. The thought is that should one relative experience the ill effects of a dietary problem, at that point there is a higher possibility that another relative (ideally the individuals who share the equivalent, or like qualities) would get an eating, or another over the top impulsive issue. Holland et al, a gathering of therapists, lead an investigation on the hereditary connection of anorexia nervosa in 1984. They scrutinized an example of 34 sets of twins and one lot of triplets, where at any rate one twin in each pair experienced anorexia. They found a higher concordance pace of 55% for the 16 monozygotic twins (who share 100% of similar qualities) than for the 14 sets of dizygotic twins, (who share half of similar qualities) with a concordance pace of just 7%. The outcomes, in uncertain terms, recommended that there was a hereditary connection between relatives experiencing anorexia nervosa. In any case, on closer assessment of the examination, we can discover numerous different reasons, which may not be hereditary, for these discoveries. For instance, the example sum was extremely little. This is a significant blemish in any analysis, as the example size frequently needs to an agent size, which can be reached out to the entire of society, however 35 sets of twins is an amazingly modest quantity. Besides, the ecological impacts were not considered in this trial, thus the higher concordance rates for the monozygotic twins could be on the grounds that they are dealt with more similar than the dizygotic twins. This is a piece of behaviorism of which I will concentrate later on. Regarding sensibility, the hereditary connection between relatives experiencing anorexia is by all accounts powerless. In spite of the fact that it tends to be a piece of the explanation or maybe just precise for just a not very many, it can't be completely liable for each and every individual who experiences this dietary issue. An issue with this thinking similar to the â€Å"answer† is that there is at that point no fault of self. Since the condition is ‘purely’ natural, the individual is then rendered sad and helpless against the turmoil, as they are not in charge of what is in their qualities. It can likewise give a ‘excuse’ so the subject can't, or reluctant to turn out to be better. Mentally, behaviorists take a gander at how the earth and outside impacts have molded and made a person. Transcendently in western societies, the size of â€Å"beauty† as far as big name and media has significantly diminished over the most recent few decades. Marilyn Monroe, said to be one of the most wonderful lady of the time was a dress size 14. As the years passed by, we find that the dress size of â€Å"beauty† has gone down, and now, catwalk models are size 8’s and lower. It appears that the more rich and propelled we become, the higher our gauges are, for skinnier individuals. The media is a central point in impacting the normal individuals of our general public. Behaviorists accept this is one of the fundamental driver for individuals (especially those with lower confidence) to create dietary problems, so as to turn out to be progressively similar to the individual in the magazine. Along these lines, individuals are regularly observed as ‘beautiful’ when they are slender. This squeezes individuals who maybe may have been prodded and felt hesitant about their mental self view. When the individual starts to get thinner, it is regularly discovered that the analysis stops, and praises are gotten in its place. This would then be able to turn into a propensity, and is known as â€Å"Classical conditioning†. They figure out how to relate being slender with liking themselves. â€Å"Operant conditioning† happens when the applause and esteem from others strengthens their dietary patterns and makes them need to lose more weight. This type of clarification is legitimate in specific viewpoints, however there are a couple of things that, should this hypothesis be valid, doesn't relate suitably. For instance, when the victim starts to lose a lot of weight and is then the reason for concern, can any anyone explain why once the commendations stop, the victim despite everything wants to get thinner? The commendations were related to feeling better and getting more fit. The commendations are no longer there, thus one would expect the inclination great ought to have broken up, and because of operant molding, the victim would figure out how to bring an end to the propensity. The facts demonstrate that operant accomplishes now and then work on advancing weight gain in certain individuals, by on the off chance that this idea was precise, at that point why doesn’t everybody with anorexia react similarly? â€Å"Anorexia Nervosa can't be agreeably represented by any single model of abnormality† The facts demonstrate that anorexia can't be the consequence of one reason, as we have taken a gander at two renditions of thinking behind the condition and the two clarifications despite everything leave holes where rationale or circumstance doesn't fit. Every clarification gives a substantial legitimization to anorexia, yet the difficult despite everything can't be settled by one record of brain science. The appropriate response might be that it is a blend of maybe a few models of variation from the norm, however the truth of the matter is that anorexia nervosa is excessively perplexing and excessively extraordinary for each situation to be the encapsulation of one clarification. The most effective method to refer to Anorexia Nervosa can't be agreeably represented by any single model of variation from the norm, Papers

Gender Roles In Much Ado About Nothing - 1059 Words

This essay is an exploration of the play Much Ado About Nothing, and the gender roles involved in the deceit and trickery that transpire and develop throughout the story. As gender is one of the main themes in the plot, identifying the expected gender roles of the characters, and how the contrast between characters highlights these expected roles. In Shakespeare s time, known as the Elizabethan Era, men and women’s roles and expectations were starkly different. Elizabethan women, no matter what social class, were inferior to men. A female’s role in the family was to get married so they could increase their family s wealth and power and to produce heirs. Men, on the other hand, had all of the power within a household. Males were expected†¦show more content†¦He hath borne himself beyond the promise of his age, doing in the figure of a lamb the feats of a lion. He hath indeed better bettered expectation than you must expect of me to tell you how. (Act 1, scene 1, line 12). This is the first we hear of the reputation of Claudio, from it we learn that he is mature, a good soldier, and has exceeded expectations. Leonato, having only heard good things about the young man, treats Claudio with respect and allows this very young man to marry his only daughter. This is an example of the saying ‘your reputation precedes you’. Benedick’s reputation is very apparent throughout the play: a Joker. At the Ball, Benedick in disguise, asks Beatrice about what she thinks of him, and she describes how most see him: Why, he is the Prince s jester, a very dull fool, only his gift is in devising impossible slanders. None but libertines delight in him, and the commendation is not in his wit but in his villainy, for he both pleases men and angers them, and then they laugh at him and beat him. (Act 1, scene 7, line 2). Don John and Don Pedro have opposite reputations and perceptions of their characters. Don Pedro is a war hero, the prince, hi ghly respected and trustworthy. He is the authoritarian, the one to look to for advice and input. We can see this when Leonato says: If you swear, my lord, you shall not be forsworn. SoftArc Cloud Computing Report- Free-Samples-Assignmenthelp.com

Question: Describe which Cloud Architectures you would Employ to assist SoftArc Engineering meet the Boards Strategy? Answer: The company should use hybrid cloud architecture in which the company uses a combination of a private cloud at its premises (the Sydney data center) and a public cloud platform provided by a third party service provider, such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) (Claybrook, 2017). The private cloud will entail SoftArc purchasing and configuring its own hardware in the data center using a proprietary architecture. For private cloud, it is recommended that SoftArc utilizes virtualization that will provide true scalability, even if the data center has physical limitations, and still ensure reduced power consumption and use of hardware and software (NetSource, 2016). Further, it is proposed that the whole data center be virtualized and a RAID 5 with stripping and parity is used (Null Lobur, 2006); the storage disks should be SSDs (solid state drives) for greater speeds. This data center will have two backups; an off location backup and a virtual mirror backup, with encryption for data security and redundancy. The public cloud should also have encryption and be linked using the OpenStack software layer, which is compatible with AWS (Ziembicki Fazio, 2011). The hybrid Cloud architecture has several merits, and is particularly suitable for the SoftArc case The hybrid architecture will ensure optimized workloads and greater flexibility which maximizes efficiency while allowing scaling the cloud. The hybrid architecture will allow SoftArc to choose where to put applications, usually where they can run best. It also allows for optimization of billing, ensuring efficient cost management; it enables SoftArc to respond to business needs as necessary by allowing the choice between CAPEX and OPEX (Kennedy, 2017). The hybrid cloud architecture will also allow for stability and availability, aspects necessary for BPC (business process continuity) as applications can be run within the private cloud and the public cloud. However, the hybrid cloud still faces some issues; the company may have to deal with multiple cloud providers where on average, firms run 2 public and 2 private clouds. Billing optimization is another challenger,; despite being a benefit, if not managed properly, it can be a huge challenge. There can be problems with communication between clouds, and the companys total control over its data is reduced in public clouds, potentially creating security challenges (IBM, 2014). Hybrid cloud risk matrix Risk profile Risk Score 1 2 3 4 5 Lack of data redundancy 0.6 Compliance 0.6 Poorly constructed SLAs 1 poor Risk management 0.8 Poor Security management 0.7 The steps to take to ensure security of the hybrid cloud architecture starts with the private cloud; the data center should be encrypted during transfers, on top of having a virtual backup, which is also encrypted. Access to the data center should be controlled strictly, and staff educated on what they can and cannot do when accessing data center resources. A physical firewall along with software firewall should be implemented in the servers. The routers used at the data center should be encrypted to mitigate malicious attacks through these points. For the public cloud; the public cloud can be configured with a VPN configuration (Mateak, 2016). SoftArc must ensure the SLA (service level agreement) signed with the cloud service provider(s) is comprehensive and contains measures for security, data ownership by SoftArc, and expected performance; it should allow SoftArc to test the security measures. Responsibilities and policies must also be defined in the SLA; the provider Hypervisors should particularly be tested by a third party to ensure they do not have vulnerabilities. The APIs should also be secured, and encrypted for safe anywhere access to the public cloud resources (Lukan, 2014). The foundation for ensuring BCP in the hybrid cloud is planning; the inbound and outbound points of connection and the storage have to be well planned. SoftArc must ensure the SLA specifies that the public cloud service provider(s) have alternate backups in different locations so that continuity is achieved even if one of their data centers is down (Knudson, 2013) (Colman-Meixne, Develder, Tornatore, Mukherjee, 2016). As mentioned earlier, SoftArc must ensure the private cloud is backed up in a different location and virtualized; both the private and public cloud must have redundancy implemented using suitable RAID configurations. The private cloud service provider(s) must always replicate their data centers, and this must be specified in the SLA and be tested by SoftArc regularly. The private cloud should also be replicated through virtualization for disaster recovery and BCP; there must be cross hypervisor replication, replication to a public cloud, and seamless application mobili ty coupled with fast migrations. The private cloud should also be replicated to a secured public cloud (Zerto, 2017) The factors SoftArc engineers must consider for remote administration, resource and SLA management include the kind and type of resources to be stored in the public cloud, the billing, and the cloud levels for the cloud (the application and platform level). The people who will administer the cloud services must be considered and the level of access they can have to the cloud services; it must consider whether multiple accounts will be used. The account governance and billing issues must be evaluated; the billing should be optimal as to minimize costs and maximize usage and performance. The team must consider the management of the APIs, the operating system, data access, and network; the API should be evaluated to either be standardized or not. The desired QoS (quality of service) must also guide the considerations for remote administration. The team must consider the available bandwidth and storage provided to them and the number of people that will access the cloud resources, Vis a Vis the security risks (Amazon Web Service, 2013). The access level control the service provider allows must also be considered as are the application resilience and the required backups. In the management of SLAs, the SoftArc engineers and staff must consider the desired security and privacy levels, the desired redundancy, disaster recovery, the response time (performance), and the available bandwidth, further, the access to the service providers online backup assets and non-performance clauses must also be considered in managing the SLA. The requisite certifications must also be considered (Dorion, 2017), (Marinescu, 2013). To migrate the SharePoint instance and SQL server, the important thing is to first plan; determine the scale and size of the data to be migrated for SharePoint and My SQL. After determining this, the SoftArc staff will then need to determine the required resources (servers, the number of users, data volume, and transactions). For the SoftArc case, due to virtualization, it is recommended that the services be consolidated (SQL and SharePoint) to reduce costs and complexity. The SharePoint version to be used must be determined, whether 2013 or the 2016 version). The active directory for the SharePoint and SQL is then determined and set and linked to the cloud service provider (if AWS, for example) and the active directory relationships determined. The SharePoint site is then secured using a DNS; the DNS is then linked to the account of the provider to allow full access. A secure SSL corticated (for Linux) and DRM (for Windows) is established and defined. The AWS templates should be use d during migration (Amazon Web Services, 2017) References Amazon Web Service. RETELL BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE AMAZON RAINFOREST AND OTHER RAIN

RETELL: BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE AMAZON RAINFOREST AND OTHER RAINFORESTS The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest tropical rainforest. It covers approximately 2 million square miles in the Amazon River Basin of South America (Lyman 1998, 61) About two-thirds of the rainforest lies in Brazil. The forest also covers parts of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela (Lyman 1998, 32) In the Amazon rainforest it contains a wider variety of plants and animal life than any other place in the world. It supports millions of plant, animal and insect species it is a virtual library of chemical invention. Deforestation is a vital issue that is playing a great role all around the world today. Deforestation robs the world of countless species, destroying crucial biodiversity and losing species with potential uses in medicine, agriculture, and industry. Over half of the world's tropical rainforest is being destroyed, most of which are in Brazil, and they are continuing to be destroyed today (Silver 1998,11). The topic of rainforest destruction raises the thought of biodiversity and cures for cancer, both of these thoughts are very important reasons to end deforestation but it has not yet come to and end. Global climate and the greenhouse effect both have an impact on the atmosphere and as well as the biosphere. Due the rainforest it has found drugs for quinine, muscle relaxants, steroids and cancer drugs (Hadden 1995, 27). Tropical forest are destroyed for several reasons, there is an increasing demand for both farm and grazing land which results in burning and clearing of the rainforest for agriculture production. Unbelievably over 200,000 acres of rainforest is burned every day in the world ( Silver 1998, 29). Another reason of deforestation is the continued urbanization of the world and the need for construction of roads and industrialization. The need for fuel and timber for construction is another major factor leading to the destruction of the rainforest (Hadden 1995,45). Deforestation has serious effects on the planet. These effects have negative consequences on the Earth's biosphere, the biodiversity of the planet, and greatly threatened the physical survival of people who heavily rely on the forest. Effects of deforestation are too great to continue destroying the forest. Deforestation by burning lets out carbon dioxide, which accounts for at least half of the greenhouse effect, in which atmospheric gases, mostly produced by human activities, trap the sun's heat, slowly warming the Earth. At least three-quarters of deforestation in the tropics are due to burning, which release about 2.4 billion tones of CO 2 into the atmosphere each year ( Lyman 1998, 16). The greenhouse effect will have several affects on the Earth. One problem is that it will cause a rise in sea levels due to the melting of glaciers. This could cause frequent flooding. Also greenhouse gases can also have an affect on climate change which can also affect the future agriculture (Silver 1998, 32). Also some studies have showed that there may be a decrease in rainfall and an increase in surface temperature. In the rainforest the trees protect the soil against erosion and reduce the risks of landslides and avalanches. Soil erosion then leads to greater amounts of run off and increases sedimentation in the rivers and streams. Besides, protecting the soil from erosion, the trees create a canopy that regulates how much rainfall and sunlight reaches the rainforests floor (Hadden 1995,22). When trees are cleared high sunlight and heavy rainfall quickly damages the topsoil. Tragically, rainforests once covered 14% of the earth's land surface. Now they cover 6%. In less than 50 years, more than half of the world's rainforest has been burnt down with fire and cut down with chain saws (Silver 1998, 44). Experts claim that the current rate of destruction, the last remaining forests could be consumed in less than 40 years. Experts also claim that they are losing approximately 130 species of plants, animals and insects every single day as they become extinct from the loss of rainforest land and habitats. How many possible cures to devastating diseases have we already lost? ACTION PLAN This project has made me realize the true value of how important our rainforest and any other forest is to our planet. I have learned a great amount of

corporate governance Essays - Corporate Governance, Business

corporate governance Essays - Corporate Governance, Business As reported in ABC's Corporate Governance Report, two independent non-executive directors have been appointed to the audit committee and a third member is being actively sought. From our research, however, the invitation of independent directors should be done by a securities commission instead of the Chairman to provide independent objective view and fulfil duties effectively as they are independent from the management. According to Securities Commission (2000), the term independent generally refers to two vital parts - independence from management and independence from a significant shareholder. A non-executive director is not a part of management. Even though, they are not a full-time director, they can attend board meetings and contribute his expertise to the board. It was also clearly noted that a non-executive director may not necessarily be independent in that he could have business and management arrangements with the corporation or other relationships including family relationships with other directors. A truly independent director should not be involved in the day-to-day running of the company's business or indeed, be involved in management. He should be free from any business or other relationships which could interfere with the exercise of independent judgement or the ability to act in the best interests of the corporation. The independent director has a crucial role in ensuring that the board is an effective board and through which good corporate governance can be promoted throughout the entire company. Among other things, the independent director is expected to provide a balanced and independent view. Securities Commission (2000). Malaysia Code of Corporate Governance. Occupy Wall Street Movement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1

Occupy Wall Street Movement - Essay Example After that it spread to around hundred cities in the United States with actions all over the globe in and around 1500 cities. The movement is to fight back against the 1% richest in the country who are in the process of steering the rules of the economy and practicing them unfairly jeopardizing the lives of remaining 99% who are the common people (Occupy wallstreet, about) Protestor’s notion The slogan of the group is, â€Å"we are the 99 percent†. The remaining 1% is all the haves i.e., that is, the â€Å"banks, the mortgage industry, the insurance industry, etc.; and the 99 percent refers to the have-nots: that is, everyone else† (Occupy Movement Wall Street). This notion incorporated a rising sense of exploitation among the US nationals done by these 1 % haves over the 99% have-nots. The protestors stated that the common people cannot be simultaneously working and poor. The protestors were guided by some particular demands. They demanded free and fair election s. They also stated that money flowing from the corporate into the elections will be eliminated, there will be only public funding, and public election channel should be made the centers of debate and educational campaigns. After the elections there would be no financial gifting or gifting requirements for meeting privately with the selected officials. There should be properly operated televised public as well as transparent investigations regarding the financial meltdown, mortgage derivatives, and returns of the taxpayers. The protestors also demand of telecasted transparent investigations in the social security funding along with its background and allocation details. There should be also securing of low risk investment policies to the funds borrowed from the social security funds. Corporations are channelizing jobs at lower wage rates to the countries which lack basic human sustainability and the Americans are losing jobs continuously. The corporations are required to operate her e by providing the local nationals jobs (List of Goals for Occupy Wall Street). Reactions from opposing political parties There was initial hesitation regarding the spread of the movement from both the Democrats party and the Republicans. This can be thought of a natural response to any protests in its initial phase (Klein). The democrats and the occupy wall street movement pose similar concerns related to the economic inequalities. The democrats refused of engaging with their lot with the protesters of the movement confronting the police and the squats in the public encampments. The Democrats embraced the movement with spreading demonstrations across the country with the attainment of robust support from the progressive traditional institutions. The democratic leaders stated that the movement has many positive sides to it. The democrats supported the central message of the movement which aimed reflecting the large economic inequalities growing up in the country due to the greed of corporate. The democrats are quite enthusiastic about the movement and they believe that the sentiments are increasing in a rapid pace within the country. There were even more progressive democrats who showed more enthusiasm. Some of them stated that, â€Å"I’m so proud to see the Occupy Wall Street movement standing up to this rampant corporate greed and peacefully participating in our democracy†

Retail Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Retail Marketing - Essay Example Notably, retailing sometimes retailing engulfs subordinating services including delivery of services (Pradhan and Pradhan, 2009; pg. 37). In other cases, the term retail is often used to refer to a situation where the service provider often quench the needs of a magnitude of individuals including in areas of public utility such in the supply of electric power. Therefore, it is vital for the targeted organization to understand the nature of the retailing it is about to franchise before such actions are taken. The type of the cloth products chain to be distributed will influence the location and other business environment required to run the intended retail shop. The retailing shops are sometimes located on residential streets, places with few or without houses, or along shopping mails. The retail shops along streets may be targeting mainly pedestrians (Zarrella, 2010). On the other hand, the current technological enhancement has led to electronic or online commerce that is often used for business to customer (B2C) transactions including the mail order that are non shop retailing services. These internet services can be used to market the newly franchised cloth retail business depending size of the mother business and the target customers (Pradhan and Pradhan, 2009; 79). ... w-shopping that involves just looking at goods but not buying, and other shopping practices that do not involve actual purchasing of goods or services. Therefore, the organization can embark on one or two of these practices to reach their customers. There are numerous retail outlets that are defined by activities and nature of stocking of good or products in relation to services provided under the same. The marketplace retail site is a location where the cloth products can exchanged. In most cases, it is often defined as the market share where traders often erect stalls where buyers browse merchandise. Marketplaces are the oldest existing retail points in the world (Zarrella, 2010). Despite the existence of markets for over centuries, in the recent past, they have been increasingly taken over by retail chains. The retail services or shopping is often classified considering the type of the products that a given retail shops and most retails often venture distinctively on food products , durable goods, hard goods, and soft or consumable goods (Michman and mazze, 2000; pg. 68). Other than recognizing the retail shops with types of goods and services they sell, cloth retail shop should recognize these shops with the marketing strategies that would make the business viable. These strategies have led to different recognized retail outlets that the cloth retail shop can adopt and some of them include: Departmental stores; are large stores selling huge assortment of goods. They usually bear intense resemblance to the specialty stores. Retailers under these ventures often carry variety of categories that includes broad assortments at average prices. In addition, other than selling cloths they can also offer considerable services to customers. The cloth retail shops may also be

Guide for the internment of japanese americans Essay Example for Free

Guide for the internment of japanese americans Essay Read and be prepared to provide a brief summary of one of the personal stories (chapters) from Last Witnesses: Reflections on the Wartime Internment of Japanese Americans, Erica Harth ed. (Chapters will be handed out at the March book group session.) Reading questions: 1. Carefully read the ‘Note for Students’ at the start of the book, paying particular attention to what Edward Countryman says about written history. He says â€Å"But good historians always approach the past on its own terms, taking careful stock of the period’s cultural norms and people’s assumptions or expectations, no matter how different from contemporary attitudes. † What point is he making here and do you agree with him? 2. The various essays in the book are taken from historical scholarship produced over time and with very different access to government documents and personal records and remembrances of the events surrounding Roosevelt’s signing the Executive Order. What does this scholarship tell us about writing with proximity to an event? How can this help us, as teachers, explain to our students what the historian does? 3. Roger Daniels in ‘The Decision for Mass Evacuation’ argues that Japanese Americans were placed in ‘concentration camps’. Other commentators continue to call the sites ‘Internment Camps’. Does it matter what these places were called? 4. Daniels quotes from one of the California proponents of removal (p. 50) that the Japanese could not be trusted at all because they had been so discriminated against in the past that they had become â€Å"unassimilable† and could not be well enough known to be trusted. Compare this point of view to the arguments used to ‘drive out’ the Chinese from the same places in the late nineteenth century. How much do you think being able to brand a group as ‘the other’ plays a role in these two cases? Do you think the same arguments were utilized after September 11 to justify Guantanamo? 5. Why did FDR, despite all of the evidence he was presented to the contrary, sign the Executive Order? In a related question, How did the tenor of the times lead the Supreme Court and a variety of seemingly able attorneys to bend the law, hide crucial evidence, and carry out the removals? 6. How is Gordon Hirabayshi like many of the leading Chinese individuals we read about in Driven Out? 7. Think about social guilt and historical responsibility and whether countries must think through past injustice and apologize for them and make some sort of reparations? We have the cases to consider from our readings of the Chinese on the West Coast, African Americans post-slavery, and Japanese Americans after the Second World War. Does the generation that did not inflict the harm owe the apology and the debt, or does this sort of thinking prolong the discord and inhibit efforts at reconciliation? 8. Dorothea Lange was hired by the War Relocation Authority to document the relocation process, but when the Army saw the tenor/tone of her work they impounded all of the photos and most of them never saw the light of day until 2006! Compare some of the photos from Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange and try to figure out why Langes were disappeared.’ (See links below.) Web Sites: 1. Exploring the Japanese-American Internment through film and the Internet. http://www.asianamericanmedia.org/jainternment/ President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the mass incarceration of over 110,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. Two-thirds were American citizens. Over half were children or infants. Their crime: their Japanese ancestry. Forty-six years later our government officially apologized for this grave injustice and paid reparations. Could it happen again to another group of Americans? 2. This site supplements a recent PBS documentary titled ‘Children of the Camps’. ‘Children of the Camps’ is a one-hour documentary that portrays the poignant stories of six Japanese Americans who were interned as children in US concentration camps during W.W.II. The film â€Å"captures a three-day intensive group experience, during which the participants are guided by Dr. Satsuki Ina, a university professor and therapist, through a process that enables them to speak honestly about their experiences and the continuing impact of internment on their lives today.† http://www.pbs.org/childofcamp/ 3. This amazing site contains an annotated directory of Internet-based resources on the Internment. http://newton.uor.edu/DepartmentsPrograms/AsianStudiesDept/asianam-intern.html 4. Being Different - Short Story Essay examples -- Papers

Being Different - Short Story Matthew had lived down the street from me most my life, and yet I still knew very little about him except for his name and his disability. Poor Matthew had been born retarded, and also owned many slight disabilities which made the mere act of living more difficult than it should have to be. Matthew was now a full grown man but he had the mind of a nine year old. He looked like an adult, but his actions and behaviour were definitely those of a young child. He walked with difficulty, and was visibly clumsy and uncoordinated. Life had not been easy for Matthew, and it seemed the older he was, the harder things got. When he was younger, even though he was teased by his peers he at least appeared to fit in with his classmates. Even though at second glance, it was easy to recognize the differences between Matthew and the other kids, Matthew did not really stand out in the crowd. Now as a full grown man Matthew looked out of place, no matter where he was, or who he was with. I ...

For and Against Pollution

These days, more and more people are using their own cars to commute. The increasing number of vehicles in our cities contributes to the high levels of pollution in the air. When faced with taking private cars or public transport, people react in different ways. I will discuss  the for and against arguments of using private cars or public transport. People prefer private cars over public transport  for several reasons. Firstly, private cars are believed to be faster than public transport since people don’t have to spend their precious time waiting for  a  bus. In addition, bus-shelters are usually crammed with people. Secondly, you can go  directly  from work to home much faster. Furthermore, there are people who don’t like to share  places with unknown persons or they don’t like to be standing up during  their  journey. For instance, when taking a bus in rush hours it is very difficult to find  a spare seat  and eventually you end up graspin g a hand bar and trying to keep your balance  so as not be flung  around  when the bus brakes. On the other hand, there are other people who prefer public transport to private cars.Using public transport is cheaper than using  your own car. Ask people who use private cars on a regular basis how much  Ã‚  they spend on their cars every month. Not only do people have to pay for high parking prices  and fuel, but also the expense  incurred when they take their car to the garage to have it repaired. Unlike private cars, public transport has reserved  lanes in many cities; so long delays due to traffic congestion can be avoided  by  taking a bus or a taxi. As far  as  the  environment is concerned, the use of public transport instead of private cars makes a difference. For  example, if the people who use a bus  were to use  their own vehicles instead,  this  would  definitely contribute to air pollution. In conclusion, using private cars is expensive and produces more atmospheric pollution than  public transport does. All in all, public transport is  proven  to be more efficient  and cheaper than private cars. For this reason, I feel that we  should all  try to use public transport whenever possible. It is  beneficial for our finances, our time, and  more significantly to our  environment.

The Course Of History Religion - 1406 Words

Over the course of history religion has changed many peoples view of themselves, society, and nature. Confusanism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, and polytheism all address the issues a person questions about themselves, the perpose of life, and how they should live one with nature. Every religion has separate beliefs on what is expected of them as a human being and how they should go about their life. They all try to achieve almost the same goal in the end but must do different things to achieve it. Confusianism was started by a philosopher named Confusious. Confucious lived between 550 and 479 B.C. â€Å"Confucious had suggested this idea when he said â€Å"being good as a son and obedient as a young man is perhaps, the roof a man’s†¦show more content†¦Ren means humanity. â€Å"It suggests a person in relationship, a key element of Confucian thought.† Ren was Confucian’s way to help teach his people to love others. He wanted people to treat all the other people around them with respect. Because if they acted upon to others nicely they would only get the same in return. Another way of living was by Li; li was the rules of social behavior. â€Å"Li were those that regulated the behavior of children toward parents, younger brother toward older brother, everyone towards ancestor.† Li was the way to act and respect your elders. A man named Siddhartha Gautama, who was named Buddha whichis translated to enlightened one, created Buddhism. â€Å" buddhism spread religious attitudes that showed less concern with the elderly, ancestors the family, and the ritualsof this world than Confucianism.† Buddha spoke of four noble tuths that helped his followers find the way to nirvana. â€Å"All life is suffering, the cause of suffering is desire, suffering can be conquored by conquering desire, desire can be conquered by following the â€Å"noble eightfold path.†Ã¢â‚¬ These four truths were something that if someone could could understand and come to terms with would be able to achieve the highest level or nirvana. The goal of a Buddhist is to achieve nirvana but to achieve it they must overcome certain things such as the misperception of reality, the true nature of themseleves, and liberation from suffering.
